COVID-19 Update Feb 2021

We are continuing to schedule hip and knee replacements for both private and NHS patients although waiting time has gone up.

I strongly recommend taking COVID vaccine as soon as offered. Current recommendations also include self isolation for 2 weeks prior to surgery with Covid swab 3-4 days before.

Patients should not have their surgery within 7 days of having received their 1st or 2 nd Covid-19 vaccination. Patients should not have their surgery within 2 weeks prior to their 2nd Covid-19 vaccination dose. Patients should be advised not to attend vaccination appointments within their 14-day isolation prior to surgery. Steroid injections should not be given in-between vaccination doses and wait for 2 weeks after the second vaccination dose (Steroids may reduce the immune response to the vaccine)
